Kevin Solomon The United States of America is objectively one of the greatest countries in the world. The unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are part of the first sentence in the preamble of one of the greatest documents contrived in the nation’s short history: the Declaration of Independence (1. archives.gov). Also in that sentence is the decree that it is self-evident all men are created equal (1). While it was scribed with good intentions, it has become self-evident that all people are not created equal in the minds of many. The topics of race, gender, religion, and ethnicity spark much conflict in the realm of social inequality, but one topic that is not talked about as often as the others is that of economic inequality. Due to millions of Americans starting their adult lives saddled with debt, the prominent wealth gap already established, and many institutions being set up to prey on the money of the masses, it is quite clear that econ omic inequality is not going to decline anytime soon. Many young adults graduate high school wanting to further their education in college, must most are not in a financial position to be able to pay for it by their selves. In order to go to a university, they must take out a student loan. Student loans are burdened on to these youths at such a high rate that the total about due in student debt is greater than one trillion dollars (2. pbs.org).
